Design + STEM Class Pack (for up to 25 students)

Drought conditions in Australian bush habitats are causing severe consequence for native fauna.

Students are challenged to choose one species of native animal and design a solution to address the impacts of drought on it’s ability to access food, water or shelter.

Using the Design process students explore, ideate, plan and construct a prototype using materials and equipment provided.

Includes -

  • All the Wooden parts, hardware and materials for your students to build their project with easy to follow instructions (see below for details).

  • Access to Student Design Challenge Provocation, Design Worksheet, and Teacher Guide (includes Lesson plan, Risk assessment and v9 Curriculum links)

Aligns with v9 Australian Curriculum: Design Tech + Science (Biological Science) + HASS (Geography) for Year 5 and 6.

Wooden parts, hardware and materials for up to 25 students (email us at info@makeandmeld.com.au to add packs for more students)

  • Plywood Base (24x16cm and 9mm thick) with pre-drilled holes for dowels, screws and wire

  • Wooden dowels

  • Wooden offcuts (various shapes and sizes)

  • Wooden pegs, paddlepop sticks, match sticks

  • Cardboard (different grades/thicknesses, corrugated cardboard, cardboard tubes, cardboard containers)

  • Paper String

  • Wire (plastic coated)

  • Felt (sticky backed)

  • Mesh (flyscreen)

  • Plastic bottle tops, plastic beads (repurposed)

  • Paper Straws, coloured paper, coloured tissue paper, shredded brown paper

  • Sanding blocks x 2 for sanding wooden parts.

  • Nails and screws (various)

  • Cardboard tape

  • Air-dry clay - small amounts for each student to make a model of their chosen animal

    The following Tools and Safety Equipment are required to make this project and are NOT included

  • Tools - hammers, pliers, screwdrivers

  • Staple Gun (to be used by adults only), Cutting Knife and cutting mat (to be used by adults only)

  • Safety Equipment - Junior Safety Glasses

  • Low-temp hot glue guns and refills

  • PVA Glue, Glue sticks, Pencils, Rulers, Scissors

  • Materials - Aluminium foil, baking paper

  • Decorating Materials - Coloured markers, water-colour paints
